Worth every penny

I have had my BrewStation coffee maker for quite some time, and actually this is my second one. The first lasted almost a year before the power button quick working. We contacted Hamilton Beach, they sent us a free postage-paid return label along with a new machine. We did not even have to wait until they rec'd the old one before they would send the new one. Nice!

We have not had any problems with the new machine and we have had it for almost two years. No leaks, no fumbling with a glass pot, (which can cost more than the coffee makers they came with to replace when they break), no dribbling coffee down the side of your cup to the floor/counter.

For leak problems described in other reviews, make sure the rubber seal at the bottom of the carafe is intact and securely in place. It can become dislodged when cleaning.

I noticed what I thought was mold growing on the hinge of the lid, but it is just hard water deposits. You can lift the lid and press it back just enough to pop the plastic bar (hinge) out. Wipe the bar down on both sides with a dish cloth then easily pop it back into place. Do this during routine cleaning to eliminate the deposits from accummulating.

Best I've ever owned! 3-4 pots a day and fast!

Because of my 2 pot a day coffee habit and how much coffee we drink as a family, i have gotten used to the idea that i will be buying a coffee maker every 6 months. It didn't make a difference if i paid $15 or $150 for it not one lasted more than 6 months without making me wait 20-30 minutes for a pot! When i ran across this machine i thought i would try it - that was a year and half ago. It's fast and dependable and needs little cleaning to keep it running fast and can be placed in your dishwasher. I love this machine and now am finally shopping for a new one because the pastic handle on the water chamber broke and i was hoping to trade it for a stainless steel version to match appliances. We really run coffee makers into the ground brewing 3-4 pots a day - but this one can take it and i love not having the glass. The only negative thing i can say is that the plastic part stains on the inside after awhile but really - who cares, it makes a 5 minute pot!!!

Good coffee bad machine

by Deborah A. Gordon 2006-05-21, 13 people found this review helpful
We gave this to my dad and his wife for christmas. They praised the delicious coffee. Easy to use, easy to clean. UNFORTUNATELY, the thing has had to be replaced four times! The brewstation just stops working. Hamilton Beach is very nice. All you have to do is clip off the plug mail it in and they will send you a brand new brewstation that will die very soon. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't suppose to be a nice gift to two good people who can't afford something like this. And then every time the manufacturer sends a new brewstation, it works great, for a bit.

Worth the Price

My pot worked well, but as others have said after a while it leaks. I found if you run coffee cleaner through it as recommended it will not leak, I believe the problem is from hard water buildup on the rubber seal.

The Ford Pinto of coffee makers...

When you first get the BrewStation it works great. It's really convenient. I bought one for my Mom last Christmas (2005) and she loved it. One day I walked into the kitchen and noticed coffee all over the counter around the BrewStation. I whiped it up and didn't give it another thought. But the next day I went back and there was coffee all over the counter again. It was then I noticed that the spout had developed a leak. My Mom said she hadn't a clue what was wrong with it, so we cleaned it and sit it on the dining room table for about 2 months unused. Yesterday, I went back to it and figured it was probably the gasket around the spout. I found the replacement gasket that came with it and replaced it. I then cleaned it off and placed it back on the counter and filled it with water. I ran it with just plain water to see if it would leak and at first it didn't. Then after it got up to about 6 cups it began dripping again. Bummer...So I left it sitting there and put a paper towl under it and when I went back about 20 minutes later the paper towel was soaked.

The bottom line is the BrewStation my be convenient and have great features, but you would be better buying a $10 traditional coffee maker at your local Dollar Store..

Coffee for all

by P. Oliverio 2006-07-03, 5 people found this review helpful
I purchased this coffeepot as a replacment for the same model. It is used in the faculty room of an elementary school by about 40 people, who take turns making coffee daily during the school year. The ease in which the coffee is made, the lack of a glass pot, and especialy, the "push button" pouring makes this an ideal coffee pot for a group. The first pot lasted 2 years with minor problems. The one disadvantage is that the heat element goes off after 2 hours, and one needs to push the on button again to keep the coffee consistently hot.

Leaks

This is my second Brew Station. I have finally learned my lesson. The first one leaked until the electronics failed (6 months). The second one has leaked from day on. I think this week-end I am going back to the old reliable Mr. Coffeee.

Don't buy it

by S. Reid 2006-04-03, 8 people found this review helpful
I loved the design so decided to buy it, 4 yes 4 coffee makers later in one year, I have given up on getting another one. All of the four have had problems with the electronics. The coffee will brew and then instead of going to warming, the machine shuts off and and starts blinking as if it is in the timed setting, the clock itself stops competely and the coffe gets cold. The machine is locked in that mode and the only way to get it back out is to unplug it and reset time, timer. One of the four just completely died after doing the routine once. At first I could not believe that we got that many lemons so I bought a surge protecter for the outlet, that did not stop it from going into the same routine so I do not believe the cause was other than poor quality. The warranty is for one year but you have to send the machine to them which involves a shipping expense so beware of that also. There is also a problem with the handle breaking and it does leak ( I would put up with the leak if the thing would just work otherwise)

Leaks

I thought this product was great at first but after a few months it started leaking. After a few days of coming home to a coffee covered counter I went out and bought a Mr. Coffee. This one is not worth the mess.

Great Coffee Maker!

I love not having to fiddle with a carafe and the coffee stays fresh a long time. I have only had one problem, the unit started dripping but then I figured out that I hadn't cleaned the unit for a long long time. Once I cleaned the unit with bleach and water (which also removed the staining inside the built-in carafe) it worked perfectly again. I would recommend this coffee maker to anyone. I am looking to replace it with the new taller version so I can put an iced glass under the spout to make iced-coffee!
