A really good air filter

by Charles F. Wells 2005-09-30, 5 people found this review helpful
Of the many, many air filters I have owned, this has been my favorite - with the UV light, auto air quality sensing, air filter replacement indicator, and fairly quiet (the high-speed on any unit is never quiet.)

[UV light:] If fish have UV lights in their aquarium filters, why shouldn't we have one too? Good for killing germs & mold etc. My UV light burned out in a little less than a year.

[Auto air sensing:] It has an "auto" setting where it turns up/down the fan speed as it senses dirtier/cleaner air. The sensor is pretty good -- it would detect "dirtier air" shortly after spraying underarm deodorant a room and a half away.

[Price:] When I bought it, it was twice the price they have it for now and it really surpassed anything else for features and value.

[Hint:] Buy extra filters. In my experience, room air filters are always replaced by newer models after a year or two. Not necessarily better ones, but always incompatible, and it becomes hard to find filters for the old one.

Be careful

I purchased 2 units and neither of the air sensors worked. When I called Hamilton Beach, I was informed that they were not covered under warranty because they were over 2 years old. [...]
Also....the units were very loud. Much louder than I expected even on whisper mode.

Quiet, effective and economical

I have owned serveral brands of units over the years, but this is the very best. Auto monitoring switches to high speed when pollution warrants and back to low or sleep when the air is clean. This saves electricity, filters and reduces noise pollution. It is better than units costing three times as much.

Best Deal On Amazon

I think this is the best deal on amazon. Other products do not compare - not only is this product on the cheapest end of the air freshener spectrum, but it's exactly what most people need from an air freshener. It has a very large square footage range. Its replacement filters are also cheaper than its competitors. It is reasonably quiet - not louder than a fan. I also find it's great for air cirulation in my bedroom. I highly recommend this product. I saw a lower hamilton beach model at Bed Bath and Beyond for twice the price of this much more powerful model. 5 stars all the way!

Efficient and Economical Air Purifier

by C. K. Smith 2005-11-26, 2 people found this review helpful
The Hamilton Beach Air Purifier is probably one of the best on the market today. Granted it doesn't have an enormous room capacity, but for the price, and quality job it does, you cannot go wrong.

Upon opening it looks sturdy and well built, but as it is used, you can seem to tell it is on the cheaper side.

It does tend to get a little loud when set on the 'quick clean' setting, or if the sensor detects the air is contaminated. One note, it can sense when I use my deodorant, and immediately raises the speed to quickly clear it out. That being said, the carbon filter in the front tends to get dirty rather quickly. Especially if you have pets in the household, it will collect their hair. We've found as said before, vacuuming it once a week will prolong its use.

The germicidal light seems to also make a difference. My girlfriend usually is sick when entering the apartment, but after having it on for a few days, she has had noticable decrease in coughing fits. I really appreciate how much it has helped for her.

Overall, I highly recommend this air purifier to anyone with pets, and/or also with allergies.

FANTASTIC

I AM WELL PLEASED. THE PERFORMANCE ON AUTOMATIC IS JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I ALSO LIKE THE SMART CENTER THAT MONITORS THE AIR QUALITY AND ADJUST TO WHAT IS NEEDED. THE DELIVERY WAS EXCEPTIONAL ALSO.

Not as quiet as I expected.

I'm satisfied with this price and feature, but the noise is bigger than I expected. Comparing to Sharp one, the noise at the weakest setting is still as big as Sharp's maximum setting.
I planed to use this one in children's bedroom, but we put Sharp one instead. Pricewise, it's still good deal though.

Works well, but a bit noisy

This air cleaner works well in our home. I typically have it in our master bedroom on the AUTO setting or in the living room when we are cooking something with strong odor.

I wish that it was a bit quieter though. I typically leave it on Whisper setting. My friend has an AirOasis unit that uses Advanced Hydrated Photocatalytic Oxidation (AHPCO) technology. It is very quiet and appears to clean the air just as well. www.cleanairfast.com

Want to sleep better, have it!

by Ricky L 2008-07-16, 0 people found this review helpful
I bought this because I am allergy to dust. My nose always block when I sleep at night. I can feel the great improve of air after turn this on. The only problem is the noise of the fan is quite loud. It takes you weeks to get use to it. But this thing is like an exhaust fan suck in the air to go through the filter and blows out. It is difficult to prevent the blowing noise. The 2nd thing I give it only 3 stars is because the replaced HEPA filters are quite expensive. Itself cost almost 50% of the new purifier.

a little noisy but cleans the air well

I am very happy with the performance, i've had it for about 2 years & it still works great. Suits my needs & the price was right. I agree that it is pretty noisy though. But i can manage to sleep if it is on "whisper" (i have to say it cracks me up that they call it whisper quiet though. it is HARDLY a whisper...) Although i prefer to muffle the sound more by keeping it in the hallway outside my door with the door halfway open. Plus i don't run it round the clock anyway so i often turn it on in the evening for a bit then turn it off before i go to sleep. Anyone planning to keep their air purifier their room & run it at night might want to find something a bit quieter.
